Not a big story in a game in Istanbul where 10th ranked Hacettepe Univ. (11-17) was defeated by fifth ranked Fenerbahce Ulker (20-8) 81-68 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Fenerbahce Ulker. Hacettepe Univ. was better in second period 19-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Croatian guard Roko-Leni Ukic (196-84) fired 23 points and 6 assists for the winners. The former international center Oguz Savas (212-87) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. Fenerbahce Ulker's coach Neven Spahija used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American-Georgian swingman Melvin Sanders (196-81, college: Oklahoma St., agency: FCM) produced 14 points and 8 rebounds and American forward Ricardo Marsh (207-81, college: ODU, agency: Top Notch Sports) added 12 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Five Hacettepe Univ. players scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains fifth position with 20-8 record. Newly promoted Hacettepe Univ. keeps the tenth place with 17 games lost. Fenerbahce Ulker will face higher ranked Anadolu Efes (#3) in Istanbul in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Hacettepe Univ. will play at home against Mersin (#10) in Akdeniz and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
