Second Stage Round 9: Maribor Messer - Polzela 89-85

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Polzela (18-10) on the court of second ranked Maribor Messer on Wednesday night. Visitors were defeated by Maribor Messer 89-85. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in League. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Polzela won third quarter 22-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maribor Messer dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Polzela's 32 and made 20-of-23 free shots (87.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Polzela 42-28 including a 19-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for Serbian power forward Marko Spica (205-86, college: Cent.Michigan) who led his team to a victory with 22 points and 6 rebounds. Guard Bojan Jovanovic (186-82) contributed with 18 points and 5 assists for the winners. Guard Miha Vasl (190-92) answered with 25 points and power forward Stanko Sebic (204-84) added 16 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Polzela. Four Maribor Messer and five Polzela players scored in double figures. Maribor Messer maintains second place in League with 18-10 record having just 0 victories less than leader Polzela.
