Regular Season Round 1: Aarhus BC - Aalborg 97-90 OT

There was a change at the Ligaen leadership position after last games. The most important game of round 1 took place in Aarhus between two undefeated teams where Aarhus BC beat Aalborg (0-1) 97-90 in overtime on Saturday night. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Aalborg won third quarter 26-25. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Aalborg used huge pressure winning it 24-18 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 4-11. Aarhus BC dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Aalborg's 44. Bulgarian forward Hristo Petkov (202-85, college: Campbellsville) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and Louis Gibson (195-90) chipped in 14 points and 16 assists. Five Aarhus BC players scored in double figures. Aarhus BC's coach Arnar Gudjonsson used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side American power forward Ryan Willen (204-89, college: Lafayette) responded with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and Icelandic Aske Thorsteinsson (185-86) scored 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Aarhus BC (1-0) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams. Aalborg at the other side still closes the standings with one game lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. They were replaced at the leadership position by Aarhus BC. Aalborg will play next round against strong Bakken trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Aarhus BC will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Svendborg at home.
