The game had a very big importance for second-ranked BBC Bayreuth as it allowed them to take a leadership position. BBC Bayreuth defeated bottom-ranked Walter Tigers at home 83-75. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 25-12. But Walter Tigers won third quarter 27-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Walter Tigers 37-26 including 28 on the defensive glass. 26 personal fouls committed by Walter Tigers helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was forward Jason Cain (208-85, college: Virginia) who scored 15 points and 8 rebounds. Center Gary McGhee (208-88, college: Pittsburgh) chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds. Four BBC Bayreuth players scored in double figures. BBC Bayreuth's coach Marco van den Berg used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Tyrone Nash (203-88, college: Notre Dame) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds and guard Reggie Redding (196-88, college: Villanova) added 18 points and 4 assists respectively for the guests. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Neckar L'burg and Brose Baskets. Walter Tigers at the other side still closes the standings with two games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Walter Tigers will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. BBC Bayreuth will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Telekom Baskets in Bonn.
