Regular Season Round 3: Brasov - Alexandria 74-69

There was no surprise when bottom-ranked Alexandria (0-3) was defeated on the road by ninth ranked Brasov (2-1) 74-69 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 7 points after three quarters before their 25-13 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Brasov forced 24 Alexandria turnovers and outrebounded them 38-25 including 23 on the defensive glass. Alexandria was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American forward Melani Thornton (185-88, college: Butler) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds. Serbian center Biljana Stjepanovic (189-87) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points and 17 rebounds. Four Brasov players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Chelsea Lyons (175, college: Wisc.-Green Bay) who recorded 25 points and 7 rebounds and forward Alina Chivu (176-90) added 20 points respectively. Brasov moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Sf.Gheorghe and Alba Iulia. Loser Alexandria still closes the standings with three games lost. Brasov will face Cluj Napoca (#13) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Alexandria will play against Oradea in Oradea and hopes to get finally their first victory.
