Regular Season Round 1: Istanbul B.B. - Darussafaka 82-89

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both leader Darussafaka and bottom-ranked Istanbul B.B. had identical 0-0 record. But Istanbul B.B. was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Istanbul 89-82 on Saturday night. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests trailed by 14 points after first quarter, but they rallied back winning next two quarters and won the game by 7 points. Strangely Istanbul B.B. outrebounded Darussafaka 45-29 including 18 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. At the losing side American power forward Arthur Johnson (206-81, college: Missouri) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds and forward Nikolay Pastal (202-83) scored 12 points and 6 rebounds. Four Istanbul B.B. players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Darussafaka (1-0) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 8 other teams. Loser Istanbul B.B. still closes the standings with one game lost. Darussafaka will face Vestel (#9) in Manisa in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Istanbul B.B. will play on the road against Baskent Genclik in Ankara and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
