Regular Season Round 2: Oberhausen - Osnabruck 61-62

Date: October 6, 2012
Very significant was Osnabruck's (#4) just 1-point road victory against one of their biggest challengers Oberhausen 62-61. It was a key game for the top position in the league. It looked good early as Oberhausen took an 6-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Osnabruck had a 14-7 second period charge getting the lead and Oberhausen was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 61-62. Osnabruck dominated on the defensive end, holding Oberhausen to just 7 points in second quarter. American guard Jasmine Byrd (173-85, college: NC-Greensboro) notched 23 points to lead the effort and the other American import guard Angela Pace (178-87, college: Robert Morris) supported her with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Even 23 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists by international swingman Sarah Austmann (179-85) did not help to save the game for Oberhausen. Dutch forward Sharon Beld (184-88) added 18 points and 8 rebounds for the hosts. Osnabruck (2-0) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Wasserburg and Heli Girls. Oberhausen at the other side dropped to the fourth place with one game lost. They share the position with 5 other teams. Osnabruck will play against BC Pharmaserv Marburg (#6) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Oberhausen will play against SV Halle Lions and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
