Regular Season Round 3: Herner - Rhein MB 74-81
Date: October 13, 2012
Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both twelfth ranked Rhein Main Baskets and bottom-ranked Herner TC had identical 0-2 record. But Herner TC was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Langen 81-74. The game without a history. Rhein Main Baskets led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. 28 personal fouls committed by Herner TC helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American forward Anya Covington (187-90, college: Wisconsin) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds. Her fellow American import forward Denise Beliveau (180-89, college: New Hampshire) contributed with 22 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Tongan-American swingman Ofa Tulikihihifo (180-84, college: CS Northridge) answered with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and center Britta Worms (185-88) added 17 points in the effort for Herner TC. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Herner TC's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Rhein Main Baskets (1-2) left bottom position moving up to eighth place, which they share with Oberhausen and Wolfenbuettel. It was Herner TC's third loss in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with three games lost. Rhein Main Baskets' next round opponent will be higher ranked Rotenburg/Scheessel (#4) at home and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Herner TC will play against BC Pharmaserv Marburg (#6) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
