Regular Season Round 4: Crailsheim - Goettingen 76-69

There was a surprise result when tenth ranked Crailsheim Merlins (2-2) defeated at home much higher ranked BG Goettingen (3-1) 76-69 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But BG Goettingen won third quarter 18-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Crailsheim Merlins dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to BG Goettingen's 32. American guard Derek Coleman (180-84, college: Robert Morris) fired 16 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Naturalized American swingman Jonathan Moore (203-82, college: N.C.Central) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds. Five Crailsheim Merlins players scored in double figures. Center Michael Wenzl (209-91) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds and Bermudas-British swingman Sullivan Phillips (198-79, college: Wash.Adventist) added 8 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists respectively for lost side. Crailsheim Merlins moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 3 other teams. BG Goettingen at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. Crailsheim Merlins will face league's leader BG Karlsruhe on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. BG Goettingen will play against USC Leipzig and be promoted back to the BBL just one year after relegation.
