There was a minor upset when 6th ranked Phoenix Hagen (2-2) was smashed on the road by top-ranked ALBA Berlin (2-0) 109-67 on Sunday. The game without a history. ALBA Berlin led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Phoenix Hagen's 24 and made 21-of-23 free shots (91.3 percent) during the game. ALBA Berlin forced 21 Phoenix Hagen turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Quite impressive performance for international point guard Heiko Schaffartzik (183-84) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 5 assists. Bosnian forward Nihad Djedovic (198-90, agency: Beo Basket) contributed with 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Five ALBA Berlin players scored in double figures. American forward Larry Gordon (196-87, college: Cal Poly Pomona) replied with 10 points and 7 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Davin White (186-81, college: CS Northridge) added 13 points in the effort for Phoenix Hagen. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. ALBA Berlin moved-up to third place. Loser Phoenix Hagen dropped to the ninth position with two games lost. ALBA Berlin will face league's second-placed ratiopharm Ulm at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Phoenix Hagen will play against TBB Trier (#6).
