Regular Season Round 9: BC Kyiv - Hoverla 69-81

Bottom-ranked BC Kyiv (0-5) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 81-69 loss to seventh ranked Hoverla (3-2) in Kyiv on Sunday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Hoverla. BC Kyiv managed to win fourth quarter 20-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 29-of-37 free shots (78.4 percent) during the game. American forward Ryan Pearson (198-90, college: George Mason) stepped up and scored 17 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import guard Patrick Sparks (184-83, college: Kentucky) chipped in 18 points (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). Four Hoverla players scored in double figures. Hoverla's coach Evgeni Murzin used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was international forward Vyacheslav Bobrov (201-92) with 20 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and American guard Anthony Goods (191-87, college: Stanford) scored 13 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Hoverla moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Halychyna. BC Kyiv lost their fifth game in a row. They still closes the standings with five games lost. Hoverla will meet higher ranked BC Donetsk (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. BC Kyiv will have a break next round.
