Regular Season Round 9: Khimik - Ferro-ZNTU 87-79

Undefeated Ferro-ZNTU (4-1) recorded its first loss in Yuzhny. Visitors were defeated by fourth ranked Khimik (5-1) 87-79. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Ferro-ZNTU. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The hosts were already 11 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 21-18 Ferro-ZNTU's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 87-79 at the end of the game. Khimik made 22-of-27 charity shots (81.5 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Ferro-ZNTU 49-30 including 19 on the offensive glass. Khimik players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. It was a good game for Serbian power forward Sava Lesic (205-88) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 12 rebounds (went 12 for 12 at the free throw line !!!). Montenegrin-Bosnian swingman Suad Sehovic (196-87) contributed with 13 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Khimik's coach Zoran Martic allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American guard Jeremy Chappell (191-87, college: Robert Morris) answered with 19 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals and the other American import guard Randy Culpepper (182-89, college: UTEP) added 27 points (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!) in the effort for Ferro-ZNTU. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Khimik moved-up to second place, which they share with Azovmash. Ferro-ZNTU at the other side dropped to the fourth position with one game lost. They share it with BC Donetsk. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
