Regular Season Round 2: St.Polten - Gussing 70-71

Important game to mention about took place in St.Polten. Top-ranked Gussing Knights (2-0) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging bottom-ranked St.Polten (0-2) 71-70 on Sunday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. St.Polten was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Gussing Knights made 23-of-27 charity shots (85.2 percent) during the game. St.Polten was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Marcus Heard (201-84, college: De Paul) had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 16 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and international point guard Thomas Klepeisz (185-91, agency: TSS Management) chipped in 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Heard is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The former international forward Martin Speiser (202-83) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) and the former international center Martin Kohlmaier (218-84) scored 16 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Gussing Knights keep a position of league leader, which they share with UBSC Graz and BC Vienna. St.Polten at the other side still closes the standings with two games lost. They share the position with Arkadia and Gmunden. Gussing Knights will play against league's leader BC Vienna in Wien in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. St.Polten will play on the road against UBSC Graz (#3) to get more than just one victory in their record.
