Everything went according to plan when top-ranked Bursa BSB (2-0) won against on the road bottom-ranked Mersin Univ. (0-2) 62-53 on Friday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 11-4. But Mersin Univ. won second period 17-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Bursa BSB dominated on the defensive end, holding Mersin Univ. to just 4 points in first quarter. They outrebounded Mersin Univ. 41-25 including a 28-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Gamze Turkoglu (-83) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds. American center Whitney Jones (183-87, college: Arkansas) chipped in 15 points and 9 rebounds. Bursa BSB's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international forward Ilkay Masa (186-84) produced 20 points and 5 rebounds and Gizem Muruvet Uca (170-94) added 14 points, 5 assists and 5 steals respectively for the hosts. Bursa BSB keeps a position of Group B leader, which they share with Orduspor. Loser Mersin Univ. still closes the standings with two games lost. Bursa BSB will face Nevsehir Uni. (#8) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Mersin Univ. will play against Izmir BSB.
