Regular Season Round 6: Alba Iulia - Brasov 82-49
Date: October 20, 2012
Very expected game when 13th ranked Brasov (2-5) was rolled over on the road by eighth ranked Alba Iulia (3-3) 82-49 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Alba Iulia. Brasov was better in third quarter 18-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Alba Iulia dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Brasov's 28. Alba Iulia forced 27 Brasov turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 4 passes made by Brasov's players. The best player for the winners was American forward Rebecca Tobin (195-88, college: Arizona St.) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international guard Ramona Tarta (173-89) chipped in 18 points and 4 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Melani Thornton (185-88, college: Butler) who recorded 17 points and 7 rebounds and her fellow American import guard Brittany Mingo (175-87, college: W.Virginia St.) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Alba Iulia moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Craiova. Brasov lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the thirteenth position with five games lost. Alba Iulia will face bottom-ranked Oradea (#15) in Oradea in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Brasov will play at home against Sp.Studentesc in Bucuresti and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
