Regular Season Round 6: Zalgiris-Sabonio - Perlas-MRU 87-75

Rather predictable result in Kaunas where ninth ranked Zalgiris-Sabonio (4-2) defeated 11th ranked Perlas-MRU (2-4) 87-75 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Zalgiris-Sabonio. Perlas-MRU was better in third quarter 27-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Zalgiris-Sabonio forced 21 Perlas-MRU turnovers. Perlas-MRU was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Point guard Vaidas Kariniauskas (200-93) scored 13 points and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Justas Tamulis (194-94, agency: Beo Basket) chipped in 14 points and 4 steals during the contest. Zalgiris-Sabonio's coach Tomas Masiulis used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was power forward Mantas Virbalas (203-88) with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks and forward Antanas Udras (202-92) scored 19 points and 8 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Zalgiris-Sabonio moved-up to third place, which they share with 5 other teams. Perlas-MRU lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the twelfth position with four games lost. Zalgiris-Sabonio will face Triobet (#15) in Jonava in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Perlas-MRU will play at home against Dzukija in Alytus.
