Regular Season Round 15: Budivelnyk - DniproAzot 89-93

We should mention about the upset which took place in Kyiv, where 4th placed Budivelnyk (6-3) lost at home to thirteenth ranked DniproAzot (2-6) 89-93 on Sunday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 21-19. But Budivelnyk won second period 24-23. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely Budivelnyk outrebounded DniproAzot 47-32 including a 22-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. 24 personal fouls committed by Budivelnyk helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American guard Derrick Zimmerman (191-81, college: Mississippi St., agency: Three Eye Sports) who scored 16 points and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). The former international guard Maxim Balashov (190-80, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) chipped in 15 points and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Malcolm Delaney (191-89, college: Virginia Tech) who recorded 32 points and 6 rebounds and Lithuanian forward Dainius Salenga (197-77) added 14 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Five DniproAzot and four Budivelnyk players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. DniproAzot moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Mykolaiv. Budivelnyk at the other side dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with BC Donetsk. DniproAzot will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Budivelnyk will play at home against BC Donetsk (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
