Regular Season Round 3: Benfica - Alges 70-66
Date: November 1, 2012
Very expected game when bottom-ranked Alges (0-3) lost on the road to leader Benfica (2-0) 70-66. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Alges won third quarter 18-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Benfica forced 19 Alges turnovers. It was a great evening for the former international forward Carlos Andrade (197-78, college: Queens, NC) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. American forward Seth Doliboa (203-80, college: Wright St.) helped adding 9 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. The best for the losing side was guard Antonio Pires (185-86) with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 assists and international Rui Quintino (194-83) scored 16 points and 7 rebounds. Four Alges players scored in double figures. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Academica and Vitoria SC. Newly promoted Alges still closes the standings with three games lost. Benfica will play against league's leader Academica in Coimbra in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Alges will have a break next round.
