There was no surprise when 12th ranked Crailsheim Merlins (2-5) were defeated on the road by eighth ranked BV Chemnitz 99 (4-3) 80-71 on Friday. Crailsheim Merlins trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 19-15 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 71-80 at the end of the game. Crailsheim Merlins were plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard John Bynum (191-78, college: Metro St.) fired 17 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. His fellow American import forward Alex Jones (206-87, college: Seattle) chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds. BV Chemnitz 99's coach Felix Schreier allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American swingman Mike Rose (193-87, college: E.Kentucky) produced 12 points and 8 rebounds and guard Philipp Friedel (185-87) added 11 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. BV Chemnitz 99 moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Cuxhaven. Crailsheim Merlins lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the thirteenth position with five games lost. BV Chemnitz 99 will face bottom-ranked USC Leipzig (#16) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Crailsheim Merlins will play against Finke Baskets in Paderborn and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
