Seventh-ranked Hoverla (5-5) gave a tough game to first ranked Khimik (9-2) in Yuzhny on Friday. Khimik managed to secure only three-point victory 88-85. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts trailed by 7 points after three quarters before their 19-9 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Khimik outrebounded Hoverla 41-29 including 27 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Serbian power forward Sava Lesic (205-88) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and Canadian guard Devoe Joseph (193-90, college: Oregon, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 24 points and 4 assists. Khimik's coach Zoran Martic used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. American Kyndall Dykes (190-87, college: New Orleans, agency: Edge Sports) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 assists and the other American import power forward Travis Peterson (208-85, college: Samford, agency: Edge Sports) scored 22 points. Four Hoverla players scored in double figures. Khimik have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 9-2 record. Hoverla at the other side keeps the seventh position with five games lost. They share it with Kryvbasbasket. Khimik will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Hoverla will play on the road against BC Odessa (#13) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
