Regular Season Round 18: Ferro-ZNTU - DniproAzot 91-85

There was no surprise in Zaporozhye where 12th ranked DniproAzot (2-8) was defeated by second ranked Ferro-ZNTU (9-2) 91-85. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts were ahead by 1 point but lost the second period ending it with a 1-point deficit before their 30-23 run, which allowed them to win the game. Ferro-ZNTU made 26-of-33 charity shots (78.8 percent) during the game, while DniproAzot only scored nine points from the stripe. Strangely DniproAzot outrebounded Ferro-ZNTU 48-30 including 33 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. DniproAzot was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The game was dominated by American players. It was a good game for guard Randy Culpepper (182-89, college: UTEP) who led his team to a victory with 27 points and 5 assists. R.T. Guinn (208-81, college: Baylor) contributed with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Forward Alan Wiggins (206-85, college: USF) replied with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds and forward Sam Muldrow (205-88, college: S.Carolina) added 16 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for DniproAzot. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ferro-ZNTU have a solid three-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Khimik. DniproAzot at the other side keeps the twelfth place with eight games lost. Ferro-ZNTU will play against Hoverla (#6) in Frankivsk in the next round where they are favorite. DniproAzot will play at home against the league's leader Khimik (#1) in Yuzhny and hopes to get back on the winning track.
