Regular Season Round 9: Mazeikiai - Statyba 72-63

There was a change at the NKL leadership position after last games. Round 9 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Statyba (7-2). They were defeated by fourth ranked Mazeikiai (7-2) 72-63 on Friday night. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Statyba. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Forward Osvaldas Macernis (196-82) stepped up and scored 18 points and 4 blocks for the winners and guard Modestas Sidlauskas (193-85) chipped in 12 points and 5 rebounds. The best for the losing side was guard Martynas Paliukenas (195-93) with 15 points and 4 assists (perfect from the field making all six shots) and forward Darius Tarvydas (200-91) scored 14 points and 8 rebounds. Four Statyba players scored in double figures. Statyba's coach Gintautas Regina rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Mazeikiai have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Suduva-Mantinga and Statyba. Statyba will play next round against Triobet trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Mazeikiai will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Zalgiris-Sabonio in Kaunas.
