Regular Season Round 10: Targu Mures - Rapid 99-68

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both ninth ranked Targu Mures and 10th ranked Rapid had identical 3-5 record. This time Targu Mures used a home court advantage and rolled over the opponent from Bucuresti 99-68. It looked good early as Rapid took an 3-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Targu Mures had a 35-24 second period charge getting the lead and Rapid was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 68-99. Targu Mures dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Rapid's 30. Targu Mures forced 20 Rapid turnovers and outrebounded them 45-22 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. American power forward Chantel Hilliard (187-90, college: Auburn) had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 15 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import guard Tarkeisha Wysinger-Mackey (177-89, college: Louisiana Tech) chipped in 22 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) during the contest. At the losing side power forward Raluca Ungureanu (180-80) responded with 20 points and 8 rebounds and guard Elena Constantin (167-86) scored 18 points and 6 rebounds. Five Targu Mures and four Rapid players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Targu Mures (4-5) moved-up to eighth place. Rapid at the other side dropped to the ninth position with six games lost. They share it with Sp.Studentesc and Craiova. Targu Mures will play against higher ranked Sf.Gheorghe (#5) in Sfantu Gheorghe in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Rapid will play at home against Alba Iulia (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
