Bottom-ranked Edremit (0-4) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 100-42 loss to fifth ranked Galatasaray (3-1) in Balikesir on Sunday evening. The game without a history. Galatasaray led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Edremit to just 7 points in first quarter. Galatasaray dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Edremit's 24. Galatasaray forced 24 Edremit turnovers and outrebounded them 36-20 including a 28-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Galatasaray especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.1 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 3 passes made by Edremit's players. Worth to mention a great performance of Vincentian-Spanish center Sancho Lyttle (192-83, college: Houston) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and American point guard Lindsay Whalen (175-82, college: Minnesota) who added 21 points and 4 assists during the contest. Five Galatasaray players scored in double figures. Galatasaray's coach Ekrem Memnun felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side Lithuanian swingman Marina Solopova (180-90) responded with 13 points and the former international forward Burcu Tasbas (178-89, agency: 1x1 Sports) scored 7 points and 5 rebounds. Galatasaray moved-up to third place, which they share with Ceyhan Bld and Botas. Newly promoted Edremit still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Besiktas. Galatasaray will meet Istanbul Universitesi (#6) in the next round. Edremit will play against Besiktas (#13) in Istanbul and hopes to get finally their first victory.
