Regular Season Round 5: Besiktas - Gaziantep 83-69
Date: November 11, 2012
Very predictable result in Istanbul where eighth ranked Besiktas (3-2) defeated 13th ranked Gaziantep (1-4) 83-69. The game was mostly controlled by Besiktas. Gaziantep was better in second period 28-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Gaziantep 35-23 including 25 on the defensive glass. Besiktas shot the lights out from three nailing 13 long-distance shots on high 52.0 percentage. American guard Patrick Christopher (196-88, college: California, agency: 1x1 Sports) orchestrated the victory by scoring 15 points. The former international Baris Hersek (207-88) contributed with 13 points for the winners. Four Besiktas players scored in double figures. American power forward Charles Rhodes (203-85, college: Mississippi St.) answered with 19 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import guard Isaiah Swann (188-85, college: Florida St.) added 10 points and 4 assists in the effort for Gaziantep. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending champion moved-up to sixth place, which they share with TED Kolejliler. Newly promoted Gaziantep keeps the thirteenth position with four games lost. Besiktas' next round opponent will be higher ranked Banvit BK (#5) in Balikesir and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gaziantep will play at home against Karsiyaka (#3).
