Regular Season Round 4: Benfica B - Maia Basket 62-69

Bottom-ranked Benfica B (0-3) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 69-62 loss to top-ranked Maia Basket (4-0) in Lisboa on Sunday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. Benfica B trailed by 18 points after 3 quarters before a 20-9 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 62-69 at the end of the game. Maia Basket made 16-of-16 free shots (100 percent !!!) during the game. Maia Basket forced 23 Benfica B turnovers. Center Paulo Diamantino (203-85) fired 24 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. The former international forward Nuno Marcal (205-75) chipped in 22 points and 6 rebounds. Andre Miguens (184-94) produced 14 points and power forward Pedro Belo (214-92) added 8 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Benfica B's coach Goran Nogic rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Maia Basket have a solid four-game winning streak. Maia Basket keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Oliveirense. Newly promoted Benfica B still closes the standings with three games lost. They share the position with Ginasio. Maia Basket is looking forward to face Electrico FC (#4) in Ponte de Sor in the next round. Benfica B will play at home against Ginasio (#10) in Figueira da Foz and hopes to get finally their first victory.
