There was a minor upset when higher ranked Samsun (2-3) lost on the road to twelfth ranked Canik Bld (2-3) 77-61 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 77-61. Canik Bld outrebounded Samsun 42-27 including 32 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American center Janel McCarville (188-82, college: Minnesota) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international swingman Nihan Anaz (172-79) contributed with 8 points, 10 assists and 7 steals for the winners. Canik Bld's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Croatian guard Andja Jelavic (172-80) answered with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and American center Chante Black (195-85, college: Duke) added 9 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Samsun. Canik Bld moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Samsun. Canik Bld will face league's second-placed Kayseri on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
