Regular Season Round 12: Zalgiris-Sabonio - Suduva-Mantinga 84-87

The most exciting game of round 12 in the NKL took place in Kaunas. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 6th ranked Zalgiris-Sabonio (7-5) to first ranked Suduva-Mantinga (9-3) 87-84 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Zalgiris-Sabonio won third quarter 25-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Suduva-Mantinga won last quarter 21-20. They made 25-of-33 free shots (75.8 percent) during the game. 25 personal fouls committed by Zalgiris-Sabonio helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Zilvinas Kuklierius (180-85) who helped to win the game recording 25 points and 4 assists and forward Audrius Mineikis (201-77) who added 16 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. Four Suduva-Mantinga players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Marius Grigonis (198-94) with 20 points and 7 rebounds and center Arturas Gudaitis (208-93) scored 14 points and 7 rebounds. Suduva-Mantinga maintains first position with 9-3 record, which they share with Statyba and Mazeikiai. Zalgiris-Sabonio at the other side keeps the sixth place with five games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Suduva-Mantinga is looking forward to face Dzukija (#5) in Alytus in the next round. Zalgiris-Sabonio will play on the road against Nafta Universitetas in Klaipeda and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
