Regular Season Round 11: Rapid - Alba Iulia 44-93
Date: November 17, 2012
Rather predictable result in Bucuresti where seventh ranked Alba Iulia (6-4) smashed 9th ranked Rapid (3-7) 93-44. The game without a history. Alba Iulia led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Rapid to just 4 points in third quarter and to 13 points in second half. Alba Iulia dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Rapid's 16 and made 16-of-20 charity shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Alba Iulia forced 24 Rapid turnovers and outrebounded them 38-14 including a 25-11 advantage in defensive rebounds. American forward Amanda Thompson (183-87, college: Oklahoma) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points and 9 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Her fellow American import forward Rebecca Tobin (195-88, college: Arizona St.) contributed with 15 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Five Alba Iulia players scored in double figures. Power forward Raluca Ungureanu (180-80) answered with 12 points and swingman Claudia Ene (178-88) added 9 points in the effort for Rapid. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Alba Iulia moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Alexandria. Rapid at the other side dropped to the eleventh position with seven games lost. Alba Iulia's next round opponent will be higher ranked Sf.Gheorghe (#4) in Sfantu Gheorghe and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Rapid will play on the road against Sp.Studentesc (#8) in Bucuresti.
