There was no surprise when 16th ranked Mitteldeutscher BC (2-8) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked BBC Bayreuth (6-3) 84-69 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by BBC Bayreuth. Mitteldeutscher BC managed to win third quarter 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. BBC Bayreuth made 28-of-36 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. 28 personal fouls committed by Mitteldeutscher BC helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American center Gary McGhee (208-88, college: Pittsburgh) who had a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds. Italian-American forward Joe Trapani (203-88, college: Boston Coll.) chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Chad Timberlake (194-84, college: Fair Dickinson) who recorded 12 points and 5 rebounds and Icelandic point guard Hoerdur Vilhjalmsson (190-88) added 10 points respectively. Four Mitteldeutscher BC players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. BBC Bayreuth moved-up to third place, which they share with EWE Baskets and Art.Dragons. Mitteldeutscher BC lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the seventeenth position with eight games lost. BBC Bayreuth is looking forward to face Artland Dragons (#4) in Quakenbrueck in the next round. Mitteldeutscher BC will play at home against EnBW Ludwigsburg (#14) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
