Regular Season Round 10: Naglis Palangos - Neptunas 81-111

Bottom-ranked Naglis Palangos is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their eighth consecutive match to eighth ranked Neptunas (3-3) 111-81. It looked good early as Naglis Palangos took an 7-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Neptunas had a 36-16 second period charge getting the lead and Naglis Palangos was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 81-111. Neptunas dominated down low during the game scoring 86 of its points in the paint compared to Naglis Palangos' 58. Neptunas had a 23-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. International forward Deividas Gailius (200-88) scored 21 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and guard Martynas Mazeika (191-85, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 17 points, 7 assists and 4 steals during the contest. Five Neptunas players scored in double figures. Neptunas' coach Kazys Maksvytis felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Nigerian power forward Olasumbo Atoyebi (203-88, college: Elon) responded with 25 points and 6 rebounds and guard Mantas Mockevicius (189-93, college: Olney Central CC) scored 15 points and 5 rebounds. Neptunas moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Lietkabelis. Naglis Palangos at the other side still closes the standings with eight games lost. Neptunas will play against league's second-placed Siauliai at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Naglis Palangos will play against LSU-Baltai (#10) in Kaunas and hopes to get finally their first victory.
