Regular Season Round 9: Keltern - Trier 88-49

There was no surprise when 10th ranked Trier (1-7) was outleveled on the road by third ranked Gruner Stern Keltern (6-2) 88-49 on Saturday. The game without a history. Gruner Stern Keltern led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Trier to just 4 points in fourth quarter. Gruner Stern Keltern held Trier to an opponent 22.7 percent shooting from the field compared to 46.4 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Trier 49-31 including a 35-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for naturalized American guard Margaret Dwyer (185-85, college: Missouri St.) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds. Senegalese center Marie Rosche (191-87, college: Dayton) contributed with 14 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Gruner Stern Keltern's coach Thorsten Kustos felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Ulrike Maerz (166) answered with 10 points and 7 rebounds and Jana Basten added 12 points in the effort for Trier. The victory was the third consecutive win for Gruner Stern Keltern. They moved-up to second place in South, which they share with Wuerzburg. Loser Trier keeps the tenth position with seven games lost. Gruner Stern Keltern will face league's leader TV Saarlouis Royals on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Trier will play against Bad Aibling (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
