Regular Season Round 7: Tofas - Gaziantep 77-76

A very close game took place in Bursa between Tofas and Gaziantep. Eleventh ranked Tofas (3-4) got a very close home victory over 15th ranked Gaziantep (1-6). Tofas managed to escape with a 1-point win 77-76 on Saturday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Gaziantep won third quarter 21-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great evening for American power forward Joshua Heytvelt (210-86, college: Gonzaga) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points and 9 rebounds. American-Ukrainian guard Steven Burtt (185-84, college: Iona) helped adding 14 points and 7 assists. At the losing side American power forward Charles Rhodes (203-85, college: Mississippi St.) responded with 20 points and 8 rebounds and the former international power forward Mutlu Akpinar (203-83) scored 17 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Tofas moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 3 other teams. Gaziantep lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the fifteenth position with six games lost. They share it with Mersin. Tofas will meet higher ranked Banvit BK (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gaziantep will play against Fenerbahce Ulker (#3) in Istanbul.
