Regular Season Round 6: CAB Madeira - Sampaense 69-72

Date: November 24, 2012
There was a surprise result when ninth ranked Sampaense (2-3) edged higher ranked CAB Madeira (2-2) in Funchal 72-69 on Saturday. CAB Madeira was trailing by 7 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 22-17 charge of Sampaense, which allowed them to win the game. It was a good game for American forward Al Rapier (200-89, college: Stony Brook, agency: Dynamics Global Management) who led his team to a victory with 21 points and 7 rebounds. The other American import guard Steve Baker (187-90, college: Green Bay) contributed with 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Baker is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The former international swingman Fabio Lima (197-88) replied with 14 points and 6 rebounds and the former international Jorge Coelho (200-78) added 13 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for CAB Madeira. Four CAB Madeira players scored in double figures. Sampaense moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Fisica. Loser CAB Madeira keeps the fifth position with two games lost. Sampaense will face league's leader Benfica on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. CAB Madeira will play against Academica (#4) in Coimbra and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
