Bottom-ranked USC Leipzig managed to get a third victory, breaking the series of two consecutive loses on Saturday night. This time newly promoted USC Leipzig edged thirteenth-ranked Kirchheim Knights 96-94. The guests were tied at the half and again at the end of regular time. But they managed to win overtime period 17-15. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when USC Leipzig made 11 blocks. The best player for the winners was naturalized Russian forward Nikita Khartchenkov (200-87) who scored 33 points (!!!). American center Chris Gadley (207-87, college: Canisius) chipped in a triple-double by scoring 17 points, 16 rebounds and 11 blocks. American point guard Chris Alexander (186-83, college: Southern) produced 23 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import forward Marcus Smallwood (198-82, college: N.Illinois, agency: Court Side) added 16 points and 13 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Kirchheim Knights' coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. USC Leipzig (3-8) moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with Gotha and Crailsheim. Loser Kirchheim Knights dropped to the twelfth position with seven games lost. They share it with ETB Wohnbau. USC Leipzig will meet at home higher ranked Science City Jena (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Kirchheim Knights will play against Ehingen/Urspringschule (#9) in Allmendingen and hope to secure a win.
