Regular Season Round 6: Beroe - Balkan 79-86

Date: November 24, 2012
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Stara Zagora where 7th ranked Beroe (2-3) was defeated by eighth ranked Balkan (3-4) 86-79 on Saturday. Balkan forced 20 Beroe turnovers. Brazilian center Atila Santos (208-83, college: Minnesota St., agency: Warren Sports International) scored 19 points and 9 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and international Ivan Lilov (196-88) chipped in 14 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Five Balkan players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Will Walker (183, college: De Paul) with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists and the former international forward Atanas Radev (200-81) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. Beroe's coach Georgi Mladenov tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Balkan moved-up to seventh place. Newly promoted Beroe dropped to the eighth position with three games lost. Balkan will meet at home bottom-ranked U20 (#10) in the next round. Beroe will play against the league's leader Lukoil Academik where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
