Date: November 24, 2012
There was no surprise when 7th ranked Recklinghausen (4-5) lost at home to second ranked SC Rist Wedel (8-1) 91-80 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 11 points at the halftime before their 61-39 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when SC Rist Wedel made 7 blocks. Recklinghausen was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for Fabian Boeke (208-86, college: Washington St.) who led his team to a victory with 23 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks. American Davey Hopkins (195-88, college: Biola, CA) contributed with 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Five SC Rist Wedel players scored in double figures. SC Rist Wedel's coach Sebastian Gleim used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Daniel Leithner (200-91) answered with 25 points and 6 rebounds and American guard Patrick Carney (185-85, college: Chapman) added 20 points in the effort for Recklinghausen. SC Rist Wedel will face Herten Lions (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Recklinghausen will play against Hannover Tigers in Hannover and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
