Regular Season Round 9: Sandhausen - Speyer 71-80

Everything went according to plan when fifth ranked Speyer / Schifferstadt (5-3) defeated on the road 9th ranked TG 1889 Sandhausen (2-6) 80-71 on Saturday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 24-14. But TG 1889 Sandhausen won second period 26-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Speyer / Schifferstadt made 16-of-16 free shots (100 percent !!!) during the game. Speyer / Schifferstadt outrebounded TG 1889 Sandhausen 41-30 including 29 on the offensive glass. It was a good game for Canadian swingman Emma Duinker (182-89) who led her team to a victory with 27 points and 7 rebounds. Forward Uta Gelbke (177-86) contributed with 17 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Speyer / Schifferstadt's coach Mike Gould used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Diamber Johnson (170-90, college: Mississippi St.) answered with 35 points (!!!) and Canadian center Matteke Hutzler (188) added 11 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for TG 1889 Sandhausen. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Speyer / Schifferstadt moved-up to fourth place in South, which they share with Heidelberg. TG 1889 Sandhausen lost their third game in a row. They keep the ninth position with six games lost. Speyer / Schifferstadt will face TSV Amicitia (#6) in Viernheim in the next round. TG 1889 Sandhausen will play on the road against BasCats Heidelberg.
