Regular Season Round 9: Utena - Jaunieji Talentai 71-44

Bottom-ranked Utena managed to get a second victory, breaking the series of six consecutive loses. This time they outleveled seventh-ranked Jaunieji Talentai 71-44. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 27-point difference suggests that Utena is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. It looked good early as Jaunieji Talentai took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Utena had a 17-5 second period charge getting the lead and Jaunieji Talentai was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 44-71. Utena dominated on the defensive end, holding Jaunieji Talentai to just 5 points in second quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Jaunieji Talentai's 28. Utena forced 30 Jaunieji Talentai turnovers. Point guard Rita Milieskiene (175-78) nailed 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and the former international guard Egle Zygelyte (166-84) accounted for 12 points, 7 assists and 4 steals. Four Utena players scored in double figures. Laura Juskaite (187-97) came up with 10 points and 7 rebounds and center Daugile Sarauskaite (196-96) added 11 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Jaunieji Talentai in the defeat. Utena (2-7) moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Aistes-LSU. Jaunieji Talentai lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the bottom position with eight games lost. Utena will play against league's second-placed Suduva in Marijampole in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Jaunieji Talentai will have a break next round.
