Regular Season Round 7: CAB Madeira - Vitoria SC 92-85

The game between third ranked Vitoria SC (4-2) and fifth ranked CAB Madeira (4-2) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. Vitoria SC was defeated by CAB Madeira in a tough game in Funchal 85-92. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 22-16. But Vitoria SC won second period 27-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. CAB Madeira looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Vitoria SC's players. It was a great evening for the former international Jorge Coelho (200-78) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points and 5 rebounds. American guard Jason Smith (183-83, college: Al.-Huntsville) helped adding 14 points and 7 assists. Five CAB Madeira players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Charlie Swiggett (185-86, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee) responded with 30 points and naturalized Cape Verdean guard Ivan Almeida (198-89, college: Stonehill, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) scored 15 points. CAB Madeira moved-up to third place, which they share with Academica and Vitoria SC. CAB Madeira is looking forward to face Fisica (#7) in Torres Vedras in the next round. Vitoria SC will play at home against the league's leader Benfica (#1) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
