Regular Season Round 7: Lukoil Academik - Beroe 90-61

NBL top team - Lukoil Academik (7-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed eighth ranked Beroe (2-4) in Sofia 90-61. The game was mostly controlled by Lukoil Academik. Beroe was better in fourth quarter 19-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Lukoil Academik dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Beroe's 26 and made 16-of-20 charity shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Lukoil Academik forced 19 Beroe turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was a great evening for American guard Brandon Heath (193-84, college: San Diego St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 assists. International Pavel Marinov (199-88, agency: Interperformances) helped adding 16 points. Four Lukoil Academik players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Reginald Holmes (193-87, college: Morgan St.) responded with 16 points and the other American import guard Will Walker (183, college: De Paul) scored 8 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Lukoil Academik. Defending champion maintains first place with 7-0 record. Newly promoted Beroe keeps the eighth position with four games lost. Lukoil Academik will play against Balkan (#5) in Botevgrad in the next round. Beroe will play at home against Spartak Pleven and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
