Everything went according to plan when fourth ranked Gmunden Swans (6-3) beat on the road 10th ranked St.Polten (1-8) 84-73 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Gmunden Swans. St.Polten was better in second period 19-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gmunden Swans dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to St.Polten's 32. They outrebounded St.Polten 37-21 including a 26-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. American forward Robert Arnold (198-88, college: Boise St.) scored 26 points and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward Dan Oppland (203-84, college: Valparaiso, agency: SportsTalent) chipped in 16 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Serbian swingman Maksim Kovacevic (199-87) responded with 15 points and 6 assists and international forward Andreas Worenz (199-82) scored 13 points. Four Gmunden Swans and five St.Polten players scored in double figures. Gmunden Swans have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Klosterneub. and Kapfenberg. St.Polten lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with eight games lost. Gmunden Swans will face Gussing Knights (#5) at home in the next round. St.Polten will play against Arkadia Lions (#11) in Traiskirchen and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
