There was a surprise result when ninth ranked TG 1889 Sandhausen (3-6) beat on the road higher ranked BasCats Heidelberg (5-4) 75-71 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 23-15 charge, which allowed them to win the game. TG 1889 Sandhausen shot 26 for 35 from the free-throw line, while BasCats Heidelberg only scored ten points from the stripe. Strangely BasCats Heidelberg outrebounded TG 1889 Sandhausen 48-31 including 30 on the offensive glass. BasCats Heidelberg was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Diamber Johnson (170-90, college: Mississippi St.) scored 37 points (!!!) and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and forward Jennifer Klett (179-84) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American center Erica Carlson (193-88, college: Dixie St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks and her fellow American import guard Jillian Young (172, college: S.Dakota St.) scored 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Four BasCats Heidelberg players scored in double figures. BasCats Heidelberg's coach gave the chance to play for ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. TG 1889 Sandhausen maintains ninth position in South with 3-6 record. BasCats Heidelberg lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with four games lost. TG 1889 Sandhausen will face Trier (#10) at home in the next round. BasCats Heidelberg will play against Speyer / Schifferstadt (#6) in Dudenhofen and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
