There was no surprise when 8th ranked Herzoege Wolfenbuettel (4-7) was defeated at home by third ranked Herten Lions (8-3) 83-75 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Herzoege Wolfenbuettel won third quarter 20-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Herten Lions won last quarter 24-18. They made 27-of-31 free shots (87.1 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was center Julius Ducker (205-84) who scored 16 points and 8 rebounds. American guard Adrian Bowie (189-89, college: Maryland) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). American forward Travis Clark (195, college: Lake Forest) produced 20 points and 9 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and swingman Henje Knopke (193-85) added 20 points and 5 assists respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Herten Lions. They maintain third place in Group North with 8-3 record having just three points less than leader Dragons. Loser Herzoege Wolfenbuettel keeps the eighth position with seven games lost. Herten Lions will face Hannover Tigers (#9) in Hannover in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Herzoege Wolfenbuettel will play on the road against BSV Wulfen.
