The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Fenerbahce Ulker as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Galatasaray) loss. Fenerbahce Ulker smashed 4th placed Banvit BK in Istanbul 89-69. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Banvit BK. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Fenerbahce Ulker. Banvit BK was better in third quarter 24-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The former international guard Omer Onan (194-78) nailed 22 points (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!) for the winning side and Australian center David Andersen (212-80) accounted for 15 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Four Fenerbahce Ulker players scored in double figures. Dominican guard Sammy Mejia (198-83, college: De Paul) came up with 18 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and international center Dusan Cantekin (221-90, agency: Beo Basket) added 15 points respectively for Banvit BK in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Fenerbahce Ulker have a solid series of four victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Galatasaray. Banvit BK at the other side dropped to the third place with two games lost. They share the position with Anadolu Efes and Karsiyaka. Banvit BK will play next round against Gaziantep trying to get back on the winning streak. Fenerbahce Ulker will try to continue on its current victory against fourteenth ranked Hacettepe at Ankara.
