Regular Season Round 8: Besiktas - Botas 69-80

Bottom-ranked Besiktas is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their eighth consecutive match to sixth ranked Botas (5-3) 80-69 on Sunday evening. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 80-69. Botas forced 24 Besiktas turnovers. The winners were led by swingman Burcu Cigil (180-90) who scored that evening 28 points and 7 rebounds and American forward Christi Thomas (191-82, college: Georgia) supported her with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Botas' coach Olcay Orak used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds by international forward Ozge Kavurmacioglu (187-93) did not help to save the game for Besiktas. Montenegrin power forward Milica Jovanovic (189-89) added 20 points and 5 rebounds for the hosts. Four Besiktas players scored in double figures. Botas moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Ceyhan Bld and Tarsus Bld. Loser Besiktas still closes the standings with eight games lost. Botas will meet at home Istanbul Universitesi (#8) in the next round. Besiktas will play against Canik Bld (#7) in Samsun and hopes to get finally their first victory.
