Regular Season Round 16: VolinBasket - Tornado 103-95

Tornado (#4) was upset in Lutsk by seventh ranked VolinBasket 103-95. The hosts were already 16 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 36-28 Tornado's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 103-95 at the end of the game. VolinBasket dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Tornado's 34 and made 18-of-20 charity shots (90.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Tornado 42-23 including 17 on the offensive glass. The winners were led by guard Bogdan Karebin (191-78) who scored that evening 23 points and 8 rebounds and forward Dmitro Shvagrynskyi (196-89) supported him with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Five VolinBasket players scored in double figures. Even 25 points (made all of his eight free throws) by forward Igor Meshcheryakov (204-86) did not help to save the game for Tornado. Guard Sergey Lapenko (196-85) added 15 points and 4 assists for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. VolinBasket have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place. Tornado at the other side keeps the fourth position with six games lost. VolinBasket will again play against higher ranked Tornado (#4) in Odessa in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Tornado will have a break next round.
