Very expected game when 10th ranked Alges (1-7) lost at home to fifth ranked Vitoria SC (5-3) 80-68 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Vitoria SC. Alges managed to win second period 23-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vitoria SC forced 19 Alges turnovers. The former international forward Paulo Cunha (200-80) nailed a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side and the former international swingman Jose Silva (194-89) accounted for 17 points. Four Vitoria SC players scored in double figures. American forward Jamarkus Holt (205, college: Delta St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Diogo Ventura (189-94) added 12 points (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) respectively for Alges in the defeat. Alges' coach Mario Silva rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Vitoria SC maintains fifth place with 5-3 record. Alges lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team keep the tenth position with seven games lost. They share it with Galitos-Tley. Vitoria SC will meet at home higher ranked Academica (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Alges will play against Fisica (#8) in Torres Vedras and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
