Regular Season Round 13: Vestel - Balikesir 78-53

No shocking result in a game when eighth ranked Vestel (8-5) crushed 10th ranked Balikesir (6-7) in Manisa 78-53 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Vestel. Balikesir was better in third quarter 16-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Balikesir to just 6 points in first quarter. Strangely Balikesir outrebounded Vestel 48-34 including 16 on the offensive glass. Quite impressive performance for American forward Justin Knox (205-89, college: N.Carolina) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Ilker Turel (190-83) contributed with 16 points and 4 assists for the winners. Knox is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Vestel players scored in double figures. American point guard Robert Lowery (188-87, college: Dayton) answered with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and center Cem Coskun (209-87) added 15 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Balikesir. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Vestel have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted Balikesir dropped to the ninth position with seven games lost. Vestel will face league's leader Selcuk Universitesi in Konya in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Balikesir will play at home against Final Genclik (#13) in Bursa.
