Regular Season Round 9: Galatasaray - Mersin 81-48

Very expected game in Istanbul where 9th ranked Mersin (4-5) was crushed by third ranked Galatasaray (8-1) 81-48 on Sunday. The game without a history. Galatasaray led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Mersin's 28. They outrebounded Mersin 47-35 including 16 on the offensive glass. American center Sylvia Fowles (198-85, college: LSU) stepped up and scored 17 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and international forward Bahar Caglar (186-88) chipped in 11 points and 8 rebounds. Four Galatasaray players scored in double figures. Galatasaray's coach Ekrem Memnun felt very confident using 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was American forward Erlana Larkins (185-86, college: N.Carolina) with 5 points and 15 rebounds and the other American import guard Shavonte Zellous (178-86, college: Pittsburgh) scored 9 points and 5 rebounds. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Galatasaray. They moved-up to second place. Loser Mersin dropped to the eighth position with five games lost. Galatasaray will face Antakya (#8) in Hatay in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Mersin will play on the road against Besiktas in Istanbul.
